Painting

Restraint, balance, stay very, very still. I can do that, I can do my part, I'm as sturdy as a column, as still as a table, as reliable as the chair you're sitting on. Maybe soon the other shoe will drop, until then we must stay absolutely, and completely, still.

Before the concepts of this shoot had fully formed in my mind I was thinking about the stillness of my work, a lack of dynamism that has always been compelling to me in my paintings. I wanted to accentuate this, how do I show you these models were still, still, still. I wanted to begin playing with imagery of women as furniture, being used, being decorative. I used apples to contrast life, to connote consumption and temptation, and to add splashes of red already present. Keeping to an office-adjacent aesthetic, I posed the models in variously,  odd, editorially set-up scenes.
